Please read the following message from the ASEEES Board of Directors:
We at ASEEES reaffirm our strongest condemnation of Russia’s war against Ukraine and the lies the Russian government is using to justify its invasion and spread disinformation about the war. As a scholarly society with a commitment to scholarly integrity, free scholarly exchange, and academic freedom, ASEEES joins and amplifies Harvard Ukrainian Research Institute (HURI)’s call for the “support of Ukraine and its peoples, by sharing factual information on Ukraine and the war and offering what support we can to those whose livelihoods and lives hang in the balance.”
We at ASEEES continually seek ways to interrogate and expand our understanding of Slavic, East European, and Eurasian studies. For the 2022 ASEEES Convention, we plan to highlight Ukrainian studies and the work of our Ukrainian colleagues.
-
We have accepted 50 sessions and 80 papers that address Ukraine.
-
The Presidential Plenary will highlight the voices of Ukrainian writers with a discussion of Ukrainian poetry.
-
The in-person Vice Presidential Roundtable will address de-centering Russia in SEEES in the humanities and social sciences.
-
We are extending the Call for Proposals for panels and events that are specifically related to Ukrainian studies, including film screenings, to May 10.
-
We have established a new Ukrainian Scholar Travel Grant Program to provide travel subsidies to Ukrainian scholars to participate in the convention. [Please consider donating to the Ukrainian Scholar Travel Grant Fund.]
-
We will waive convention registration fees for session participants who are citizens of Ukraine.
We expect all participants to read, understand, and abide by our Code of Conduct, which states: “The ASEEES Annual Convention is convened for the purposes of professional development and scholarly and educational interchange in the spirit of free inquiry and free expression. Speakers are asked to frame discussions as openly and inclusively as possible and to be aware of how language or images may be perceived by others.” ASEEES holds its participants to the highest empirical scholarly standards as well as to professional ethics and norms, and will consider the spreading of disinformation as a violation of its code of conduct.
